Johnstown 2018 Debrief

Great meet.

Still wet. Will Pennsylvania ever dry out? Will we ever ride a rock or root again that isn’t slippery with mud? These are the questions that haunt us.

What we learned

I think more than anything, this meet showed that each meet is a new beginning. Each meet can be your best, or your worst showing. Things can go your way, and you can be heading to the podium (like Grant, Max, and Paul) or you can fall short of your previous high water marks.

This riding thing is not a straight line between “bad” and “good”. Sometimes, your plans don’t work out - regardless of how hard you worked, or how much you prepared.

Preparation increases your chances of success - this is certain - but it’s not a guarentee. Sometimes, it’s just not your day. And that’s how it goes here, and in life.

But sometimes it is your day, and you shine brightly. We need to appreciate those highs, and always envision ourselves there in the future. Every day is a new opportunity for greatness!

Extra cirriculars

When not competing, we had a great time camping, and riding. The weather was wet, but not unbearable. We had a fun campfire experience. Got to know some of the other teams. We watched a weird game of “cricket” and some unicycle riding. Played a log dragging game. Set Doritos on fire. Talked about exploding marshmallows (which I think is an urban myth), and lots of other activities that make our team amazing.

Hope everyone had a great time, and here’s to FAIRHILL!
