Genesis
What started pretty randomly turned into something pretty special. Phil Waidner, Director of Team Trail Corp and NICA camps, mentioned the opportunity while we were talking about other TTC business. I said I thought I knew some kids who would be interested, because they were already participating in TTC Captain badge activities. He said great. The Katie and Nathan Corbeill said they were interested, and from there, things started moving. Phil got some kids from other teams around the state and we assembled a “dream team” to represent PICL and NICA at the Big Apple.
Development
For about a month the team worked on their presentation. Each presenter took a section. In it’s final form, it basically layed out as follows:
Matt - Introduction
Nathan - Day in the life of a team member. Practices, special events, meets.
Matt - Team Trail Corp - things to do to give back.
Luly - Adventure and camps - all the things that a person can do who isn’t into racing.
Katie - More about women in cycling, bike fund raiser, and how bikes help with social problems.
Zack - How cycling and NICA have changed his life.
Luly - wrap up and close as a team.

Pictures tell the tale best I think
Saturday
Saturday was the big day, because that was when we presented. We went to the Keynote address in the morning, then from there, we did breakout sessions. Everyone chose sessions that were interesting to them. At 2:45 it was our time to present. Below is the video of the presentation. If you want to see any of the slides or the entire deck of slides: they can be accessed using the button at the bottom of the page.
I think you will agree that the team did a pretty amazing job!
After the presentation, there was one more session. After that, we hiked all around NYC looking for food and eventually we settled at a place called Halsey’s (see photo). We were all starved, so the food was AMAZING! Thanks to Phil and NICA for putting the weekend together. Only one more day to go!
Sunday
Final day, and it starts back were we were on Friday night. The building was a little slow getting open, so we got an amazing tour of the bike operation across the street. Here, they get hundreds of bikes, fix what they can, scrap some, put some in bike shops, all in the name of getting as many people on bikes as possible. All types of programs to see that it happens.
