North Branch Canal Trail Clean-up

  • Danville Soccer park (map)

This is a very tame, but very beautiful, all dirt trail right in our backyard.  As mountain bikers, we do stewardship.  It's what we do.  It's why all other groups envy us, and think we are gods.

So if you have time, please take a few hours and join the work crews who will be making these trails a hidden gem of wildlife and riverviews.  I promise you will have some fun, and build some pride in the process.

Bring bikes.  Anyone interested should ride the trail afterward.  It's beautiful.

Here are the details from Bob Stoudt, Director of Recreation, Montour County:

"MARC staff and volunteers are planning a major cleanup of the 6.2 mile-long North Branch Canal Trail corridor in Montour and Columbia Counties and we need your help!

Please join us on Sunday, May 20, from 1pm - 5pm, for our most ambitious cleanup effort yet along the North Branch Canal Trail.

Volunteers are asked to meet at the Danville Soccer Park on East Market Street (across from the Danville State Hospital) at 1:00pm for a mandatory safety briefing.  From that point, we'll break up into teams and head out to the trail to work.  Volunteers are not required to stay until 5pm and may leave whenever needed.

Children may attend but must be supervised by a parent or adult guardian at all times.

Please wear boots or other sturdy footwear, long pants and gloves.

Light refreshments will be provided. The event will be held rain or shine, unless thunderstorms or other severe weather is anticipated.

To learn more, please contact Bob Stoudt, MARC Director, at RStoudt@MontourRec.com or by phone at (570) 336-2060.

We'll hope to see you out there!
